Order “Beyond the Spill”
On April 20, 2010 the explosion on the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig allowed an estimated 200 million gallons of oil to spill into the Gulf of Mexico over three months. It is the largest accidental marine oil spill in the history of the petroleum industry and caused extensive damage to marine and wildlife habitats and to the fishing and tourism industries of the Gulf.
In early August 2010, a 22-member group of Oregonians, including local journalists, artists, documentary filmmakers, teachers, students and activists, traveled to the Gulf to bear witness to the impacts of the spill on the cultural, economic, and environmental fabric of the region. A project of the PDX 2 Gulf Coast organization, the journey included 10 days in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama.
“Beyond the Spill” is a 30-minute thought-provoking documentary that looks at the devastated environment and economy of the Gulf Coast, the personal choices that drove us head-on into this catastrophe, and the actions we must take to move beyond the spill.
